Ms Josefa TORRAS.

She only wanted one thing: that her son was not a farmer. So she set up her small textile business at home, in the little country town of Caldes de Montbui (Barcelona). It was November 1951. She was Josefa TORRAS and her son, Joan Serra.

The knitwear was the essence of TORRAS production in the 1950's: polos for men and ladies blouses. Torras began to use a new washable fabric that does not shrunk, Leacril®, in order to increase quality garments and fashion trends.
1961-1970 > Born in TORRAS: Leather & Knit Jacket

In the same company, Joan met Antonia Clerch and he married her. Joan continues to lead sales and collections, beginning with the first exports, while the founder of TORRAS gives way to his daughter-in-law as responsible of production.

A TORRAS suede and wool strips, sewn by hand, cardigan was the first leather and knit garment, soon turned into a classic piece of clothes in each wardrobe. By then, the famous Spanish actor Paco Moran was wearing one for TORRAS as a model. With a marked style and for its first time, the brand participated in an international fashion show: it was Amsterdam 1964

Joan Serra strengthens the international market thanks to a prestigious brand with a presence at the most exclusive shops and fashion shows. In addition, TORRAS built a new factory to attend the increasing demand, outside the same town of Caldes de Montbui.

TORRAS designed its first all-leather garment. At the same time, fashion trends are sets of knitted jackets and skirts in angora, lambswool pullovers and vests and thick shetland jackets, discrete garments with soft daring necklines.

Francisco, the eldest son of Joan & Antonia, joins TORRAS and introduces advances in management, manufacturing, information technology or sales. Like his parents, Francesc met his future wife in the company, Ana. At the same time, Torras is in the front-page of the most prestigious international fashion magazines.

The leather garments become a "must have": jackets, skirts, trousers, innovative designs that position the brand in the elite. A future top model as the Catalan Judith Mascó works for a TORRAS campaign. It was a time of wide lines, colorful Japanese ranglans and fantasies in leather and knit. Also soft mohairs and colored Angoras combined with stamped or punched leathers and jacquards. Rustic or aged was another trend.
1991-2000 > Black Colour and Simple Lines have the power
Francesc, right, & Josep Maria take over the baton.

The model and actress Sofia Mazagatos, from Madrid, stylish in the 90's.

The youngest son of Joan & Antonia, Josep Maria, becomes part of  TORRAS, leading international strategy, marketing and design and the export boom. Francesc & Josep Maria take over the baton in the family company.

The 90s are time for simplicity, grunge (Nirvana) & supermodels like Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell or Cindy Crawford. The strong colors of the Spice Girls, Rachel hairstyle in Friends (Jennifer Aniston) or short T-shirts to the navel. Low-rise pants, jeans and daring necklines. Torras remains as an international trend and takes the famous model and actress Sofía Mazagatos, from Madrid, as a model. Leather is no longer considered a luxury and becomes a sportswear and streetwear garment. The collection becomes younger, with simple lines, comfortable and with natural colours, always with the TORRAS distinction and quality. Thus, sobriety and black colour take over the TORRAS catwalk in the glorious Gaudí Barcelona fashion show.
